Sitting in a home during a hurricane that shakes the windows and moves the sofa: bad idea! That was...freakishly disturbing. We only recently got our power back on and such, but I must say that right now I'm just glad to be alive. Telecommunications is crap over here. I mean, they're doing their best. Obviously we're back up or I'd not be here (dial-up, my dears). But my cell phone (correction: my parents' cellphone ) is dead nearly all the time. Full bars, no service. I'm sure it's because so many displaced families are busying the cellphone service providers by calling through and trying to reach one another. I just seriously hope that as many people as possible make it out of this alive and at least relatively unharmed.

Relatives of mine, very close relatives, were hit hard by this storm. It makes me feel selfish for being upset that we lost an exterior building and part of our roof. It makes me feel lucky that my family still has a source of income. Uncles. Aunts. Grandparents. Friends. Using foodstamp cards now...

Disaster relief, Hurricane Katrina, all hot topics of the media. And rightfully so.

Good luck to the others affected, especially those who have it much worse than I do. Love to you all. And I'm very proud to see how unified my state has become, just sadenned that it took something of this magnitude to do it.

And, of course, thank you to those who are providing water and food to families. You kept my family from starving and dehydrating for the week we were without income...
